Suomen Voima Invests in a 5 MW Solar Power Plant
29 August 2023

Suomen Voima’s shareholders have decided to invest in Kannuksen-Hietakangas Oy’s ready-to-build 5,0 MW solar power plant located in Kannus, Central Ostrobothnia. Suomen Voima’s share of the power plant will be 39,29 %, which corresponds to approximately a 2,0 MW stake in the project.

Kannuksen-Hietakangas Oy is Puhuri Oy’s 100 % owned daughter company. The company has developed and will also build the solar plant during this and next year. The forecasted commissioning of the plant is forecasted to be next year and the planned service life of the park will be 30 years.

More information about the project (in Finnish) can be found on Puhuri’s website.

For Suomen Voima, the new investment in solar power is not the first one. Suomen Voima has constructed the fully owned 0,7 MW Mäkelänkangas solar park in 2016. In 7 years, the capacity per panel has more than doubled and the technology has evolved remarkably, thus it will be interesting to see the difference in performance in practice once the new solar park starts its commercial operation in 2024.
