Suomen Voima Oy suunnittelee Kemijärven Kapustan alueelle pumppuvoimalaitosta (100 MW). Hankealue sijaitsee Kemijoen varrella, noin 34 kilometriä Kemijärven keskustaajamasta etelään. Pumppuvoimahanke muodostuu noin 1 130 hehtaarin kokoisesta tuotantoalueesta ja hankkeen vaatimasta sähkönsiirrosta.
Hankkeen ympäristövaikutuksia arvioidaan parhaillaan käynnissä olevassa ympäristövaikutusten arviointi (YVA) -menettelyssä. Osana YVA-menettelyä toteutetaan alueen asukkaille ja vapaa-ajan asukkaille suunnattu kysely, jonka avulla selvitetään paikallisten näkemyksiä hankkeesta. Kysely on kohdistettu rakennettujen kiinteistöjen (asuin- ja lomarakennukset) omistajille noin 10 km säteellä Kapustan hankealueesta. Kyselyn toteuttaa hankeen YVA-konsultti Sitowise Oy.

Suomen Voima Oy is planning a pumped hydro storage plant in the Kapusta area of Kemijärvi, with a capacity of 100 MW. The project area is located along the Kemijoki River, approximately 34 kilometres south of the central urban area of Kemijärvi. The pumped hydro storage project consists of a production area of approximately 1,130 hectares and the electricity transmission infrastructure required by the project.
The environmental impacts of the project are currently being assessed as part of the ongoing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure. As part of the EIA procedure, a survey aimed at local residents and holiday-home residents will be carried out to gather local views on the project. The survey has been addressed to the owners of developed properties, residential and holiday buildings, within approximately a 10-kilometre radius of the Kapusta project area. The survey is being conducted by Sitowise Oy, the EIA consultant for the project.

Responses to the survey are submitted anonymously. The results of the survey will be published as an appendix report to the EIA report.
The responses to the survey will be used in the EIA report when assessing the impacts of the project. The competent authority in the EIA procedure is the Finnish Licensing and Supervisory Authority.
